The impact of cloud on your software asset management, with real case by Toyota

Date:07/06/2017
Time:13:30
Location:Roularta Conference Center, Zellik

There’s a lot of hype about cloud: “your life will get easier!” “Cloud solutions are more cost efficient, flexible, transparent to manage!”  In this session, we’ll look at the extent to which cloud solutions fulfil this promise of transparency on the level of software licensing. And we’ll examine the impact of cloud on a company's software asset management (SAM).

Some of the topics we’ll cover:

  • Lock-in for cloud solutions
  • Negotiability of cloud contracts
  • Consequences of indirect access
  • Guiding the transition from on-premises solutions to cloud
  • The SAM manager’s role in the world of cloud.

Stibbe will provide contract and regulatory insights, Comparex will discuss solutions, while Toyota will share its real-life experiences.

Please note that in order to guarantee an interactive discussion, we are keeping the number of attendees limited, so be sure to book your spot in time.

In the meantime, we are pleased that the Beltug/INTUG Proposal for a Software Publishers’ Code of Conduct will be presented at the ITAM Conference in Copenhagen on June 21-22.

14:15 Toyota Case: SAM in the cloud: necessity or waste of time?

When moving to cloud-based services, SAM may seem to become unnecessary. So are SAM managers a threatened species? In this session, Steven Wynants of Toyota will work around 3 statements, giving his view on the future of SAM in the cloud.

  • Statement 1: As a SAM manager, I feel less in control when my company buys cloud services.
  • Statement 2: My management feels SAM is no longer required now we have moved to the cloud.
  • Statement 3: I have redefined my role as SAM manager to include cloud services in my scope of work.

Steven Wynants, Manager Vendor & Financial Management, Pan-E Information Systems, Toyota Motor Europe (English)

16:15 Need an aspirin? Cloud is not the end of your licence compliance headaches!

Rather than solving your licence compliance headaches, moving software into the cloud will in fact generate new or additional concerns, triggering the need for an even more sophisticated SAM approach. From a contract perspective, various challenges arise: do your existing licence contracts allow you to move software into the cloud? Do they authorise you to use on-premises software in conjunction with a cloud-based application? And what additional regulatory frameworks kick in when you go to the cloud? Erik Valgaeren will address these and other related questions.

Erik Valgaeren, Advokaat-vennoot – Head TMT/IP practice, Stibbe (English)
