The Wondrous World of WiFi: Discussion enriched with user stories from VDAB, SWIFT & DP World (X-change)

Location:Comeos, Brussels

Invitation to the Beltug X-change “The Wondrous World of WiFi: Discussion enriched with user stories from VDAB, SWIFT & DP World”

WiFi has become ubiquitous, in offices, homes and public locations. Today, you probably notice more when WiFi ISN’T available, more than when it IS!

But that doesn’t mean everything is crystal-clear. In this session, we take a look at questions that still arise when setting up a solid WiFi network: security, free access, the types of access points that you allow ... And we’ll explore some often-unexploited opportunities. Then, after hearing the real-life stories and insights of VDAB, SWIFT and DP World, participants will exchange their own experiences, concerns and best practices in interactive discussions.

Please note that in order to guarantee an interactive discussion, we are keeping the number of attendees limited, so be sure to book your spot in time.

Bjorn Dewael will share SWIFT’s WiFi evolution – laying out the starting point and the decisions to be taken in preparation for a modernisation.

Next, Berengere Mol will take us deeper in the design of the solution:

  • Flexdesk and mobility requirements
  • Flexible but secure
  • Wireless services requirements – defining current needs and anticipating the future.

Finally, they will address the question: 'Cable or WiFi, which is more secure/manageable?'

15:15 DP World - WiFi in the world of containers

Container handling is DP World’s core business. With the company active in both marine and inland terminals, the challenges for a well-designed WiFi network are numerous. The metal containers themselves pose one issue, as do the thousands of truckers and dockworkers who rely on WiFi for all kinds of registrations and administration. We will learn from Patrick Putman about these challenges, and the insights DP World has gained from its WiFi project. Plus, we will hear why carefully thought-out security measures are vital.
