Lobbying BELTUG defends your interests and addresses issues with government representatives and service providers.
1. Much better tariffs for calls to mobile networks coming? |
The BIPT plans to drastically reduce mobile termination rates (MTRs):
| €cent/min* | Today | 2010 | 1/1/2011 | 1/1/2012 | 1/1/2013 | | Proximus | 7.20 | 4.45 | 3.77 | 2.42 | 1.07 | | Mobistar | 9.02 | 4.86 | 4.10 | 2.59 | 1.07 | | BASE | 11.43 | 5.60 | 4.69 | 2.88 | 1.07 |
For years, BELTUG has complained about the high tariffs for fixed-to-mobile calls, mainly affected by high MTRs. The proposal has now reached consultation, and BELTUG will certainly prepare its opinion. French and Dutch press releases are available on the BIPT site. As soon as lower MTRs become active, BELTUG will of course check whether the decreases benefitting the telecom operators are passed on to our members. |
2. BELTUG meets representatives of Neelie Croes, European Commissioner for the Digital Agenda |
BELTUG and INTUG (the International telecommunications users group, covering national user groups like BELTUG) met with representatives of Commissioner Neelie Croes. We presented the main concerns of the business market for communication services. The representatives showed a lot of interest in our positions, and there will be more consultations in the near future. |
3. BELTUG challenges Belgacom/Proximus, Avaya, Mobistar and Telenet |
BELTUG also discusses business market topics with ICT service providers. Last month, we reviewed issues regarding SIP Trunking, service phase-outs and mobile data with Belgacom’s Michel De Coster, Executive Vice President Enterprise Business Unit. On 12 March we will bring Nortel customers together with Avaya, to discuss concerns about its take-over of Nortel.
On 25 February, Telenet, Belgacom/Proximus and Mobistar will respond to challenging questions from more than 25 ICT decision makers on the private use of communications tools. Business users can still subscribe to attend. BELTUG plans to update the Corporate Policy paper on the use of the communications tools by the end of April. |
4. BELTUG in the press |
| Our positions get a lot of visibility in the press. Danielle Jacobs, General Manager of BELTUG was interviewed by Kanaal Z on mobile data and on mobile termination rates on RTBF. |
Information and vision We want BELTUG members to be the best informed ICT decision makers and professionals. |
1. New presentations, case stories and reports available |
2. New GSM bill not yet published |
We like to keep you informed of upcoming legislation, even before it is published. BELTUG has written a note to explain how social security rules for GSM will change with the new GSM bill. This will allow you to already prepare your company’s approach. The bill has not been not published yet; we will keep you posted. |
3. BELTUG team reinforced |
BELTUG’s plans for activities and papers are ambitious. To meet these goals, we have strengthened the BELTUG team, welcoming Roeland Vander meiren and Hendrik Van De Velde as our new Project Managers.
And fortunately we can also count on lots of enthusiastic members to help us. |
4. Leased lines towards China - new consultation |
Our current consultation focuses on experiences with leased lines to China. Since we have received so many interesting reactions, we are consolidating the results and will make them available for all members.
The consultation program is working very well. Thank you to all members who respond with helpful answers to the questions from BELTUG members. |
