Reduction of termination rates insufficiently felt by consumers
After years of complaining about high rates for calling from fixed-line to mobile telephones, the BIPT lowered mobile termination rates drastically. Danielle Jacobs, director of BELTUG, concludes however that consumers do not benefit from this reduction. BELTUG launched an inquiry among some fifty big and medium-sized enterprises and found that only half of them benefitted from lower prices. Whoever is not on guard and assertive will pay the penalty. Moreover, the BIPT had abolished set-up costs in February 2008 but three years later one third of the respondents still paid set-up costs. BELTUG offers appropriate advice to negotiate a price reduction.
