Agenda

Lobbying

BELTUG defends your interests and addresses issues with government representatives and service providers.

1. Meeting with Chris Fonteijn, Chair BEREC (the European Regulators)

At its 4 March meeting, BEREC, the group of 27 European regulators, determined to focus on the business market. In the meantime, Roeland Vander meiren and Danielle Jacobs of BELTUG met with Chris Fonteijn, Chair of BEREC, on behalf of INTUG, the international telecoms users group. We showed him clear examples of how the single market for electronic communications is not a reality for businesses like the concerns about international mobile services and the many cross-border issues with cloud computing and security and privacy.

2. INTUG/BELTUG respond to EC consultation on Mobile Roaming

As we reported in our January 2011 Update, the European Commission is carrying out a consultation on the next stage of the EU Roaming Regulation. INTUG/BELTUG prepared our position, which stresses the unfortunate lack of progress reported by business users in areas including the reduction of mobile communication costs, improvements in service quality and coverage, and the availability of global contracts, adequate billing and reporting.

3. SIP certification for vendors at Belgacom

On February 23, BELTUG and Belgacom organised a meeting for PBX vendors on SIP certification, at which Belgacom presented its approach. This included explaining why vendor SIP certification is important for the future rollout of Unified Communications solutions, and how PBX vendors can get their SIP certification from Belgacom.

Over the coming weeks, the vendors will go through the specifications and pass their concerns and questions to BELTUG. Although BELTUG works for the business ICT users, we feel that our participation in bringing the different vendors together will result in our members benefiting from increased competition.

Information and vision
We want BELTUG members to be the best informed ICT decision makers and professionals.

1.  Consultation results: experiences of mission-critical teleconferences with external people

We organised a BELTUG consultation for one of our members that needs to arrange telephone conference calls with external people (e.g. meetings with analysts and investors, announcements of annual results, etc.) a few times per year. These teleconferences are critical, and must be run using telephone only, under ideal technical circumstances and support.  The feedback we received on this topic is summarised.

2. Consultation request: experiences with Ethernet in the First Mile?

One of our members, an organisation with a lot of sites, is looking into the possibility of introducing EFM (Ethernet in the First Mile), ADSL and VDLS on the Explore network. They are interested to hear whether other professional users are satisfied with the stability and performance of these products.
If you have relevant experience, please let us know at info@beltug.be if this member may contact you to learn about your experiences.

3. New BELTUG Replays online

Now you can listen to a replay of selected presentations, synchronised with the slides. There are 4 new Replays available: members can listen to a Replay of the presentations of Solvay on "PBX Consolidation and Centralisation", The IPv6 Council on "Ready for IPv6? Opportunities and challenges for the business user", Agentschap Ondernemen on "Unified communications" and VRT on "Reflections on an RFP, one year later".

4. New presentations available
