Danielle Jacobs speaks out

 For years, Danielle Jacobs has headed BELTUG, the most successful ICT users association in Belgium. BELTUG’s “barometers” have greatly contributed to the discussions on fixed-to-mobile rates. Moreover, the association regularly organises seminars on specific subjects, including the hot topic “Bring Your Own Device“. Jacobs can only conclude that liberalisation in Belgium has barely begun and Belgacom still has a de facto monopoly. She also draws attention to the impact on businesses of Microsoft’s takeover of Skype and its stake in Facebook, which give access to a worldwide communications platform beyond the regulated telecoms market. Meanwhile, Jacobs was nominated president of INTUG, the International Telecommunications Users Group, offering BELTUG members a voice in talks with the EU Commission and BEREC.
