A SELECTION OF OUR ACHIEVEMENTS
BELTUG supports and represents ICT users to government, associations and the private sector. Our many success stories show how our efforts help strengthen the position of Belgian users, here and abroad.

1. Liberalisation of .be and .eu domain names
BELTUG plays a major role in the DNS.be and EURid non-profit organisations responsible for the .be and .eu domain names. As of May 2008, there are almost 800.000 .be names and 2,780,000 .eu names registered. Read more.

2. International lobbying via INTUG
As an active member of the International Telecoms Users Group, BELTUG participates in lobbying and developing common user positions internationally. Thanks to BELTUG’s initiative, national users can now exchange views and positions at INTUG meetings. Read more.

3. Lobbying for Belgian legislation
BELTUG submitted an amendment for the telecoms legislation to restrict the definition of “operator.” Thanks to the acceptance of this amendment, organisations such as banks, government departments, hospitals, etc are not classified as “operators” and are not subject to the same duties and restrictions. Read more.

4. F2M Barometer fights high tariffs
The Fixed-to-Mobile Barometer brings transparency to the rates charged to users by fixed operators, following the decrease in termination rates of the fixed operators to the mobile operators. With the Barometer, it is clear to what extent providers are passing on the decreased costs to the end-user. Read more.

5. Press monitoring and clipping
The BELTUG ICT Press Monitor (paying service), compiled by Armada, provides you with a daily overview of the complete ICT news from more than 20 different national and international media. You can even have a complete copy of the articles that interest you. Read more.

6. BELTUG coordinated telecoms Business Continuity survey for banks
BELTUG was asked by the 4 major banks in Belgium, plus Euroclear, to carry out a provider survey on Business Continuity. The final documentation provided by BELTUG exceeded even the expectations of the Committee for Financial Stability. Read more.

7. Leading role in standardising electronic invoicing for telecoms
BELTUG was a leader in the introduction of electronic invoicing, from the 1990s, working together with Belgacom and the Platform of Telecoms Operators to prepare an exhaustive file for the Ministry of Finance. BELTUG also convinced Proximus, Mobistar and Verizon Business (Worldcom at that time). Read more.

8. Study on ICT “internal clients’” expectation and perceptions
In order to help ICT departments to improve their relations with their internal clients, BELTUG carried out a survey in May 2006 to provide an objective view of the expectations and perceptions of e.g. the heads of business lines and the functional departments supported by ICT. Read more with a link to the study.

9. Annual survey on telecoms market
Each year, from 1998-2003, BELTUG carried out a survey among professional ICT users on their assessment of the fixed, mobile and Internet providers in the market. This survey was key in assisting organisations to become familiar with the new players entering the Belgian telecoms market after liberalisation. Read more.

10. Early price indices after liberalisation
After liberalisation of the telecoms market in Belgium, it was quite difficult for organisations to assess the competitiveness of providers’ tariffs. BELTUG established an index in which each provider would indicate the tariffs that would be charged for several fictitious business cases. The indices were updated every 6 months until 2004, when the market was more mature. Read more.
