The challenge of indoor mobile coverage in a 24/7-connected world (N-sight)

Date:17/09/2019
Time:09:00
Location:Business Faculty, Brussels

It is indisputable: our world is digital.  For users and objects alike, the need to be connected 24/7 is growing, both outdoors and indoors.  Yet indoors, companies often face the challenge of limited coverage: and it’s remarkably hard to tackle.

During this session, we will examine the different aspects of the challenge at hand, from the point of view of companies that need to ensure connectability, and from the installation industry.  And we will get an update on the possible solutions and on the status of the ASTRID coverage.

Don't forget to pass this invite on to your colleagues from facilities management!

9:30 Introduction

Kris Van Dingenen, Director Technology & Certification, Techlink, & Danielle Jacobs, CEO, Beltug (English)

9:45 Indoor coverage in today's insulated buildings - a multitude of open questions

The challenges of coverage begin during the construction process for engineering firms like Ingenium (experts in sustainable buildings), especially due to building requirements for strong insulation, to give one example. This means we need ‘proper’ indoor coverage solutions: but what are they? What is legally permitted? Who are the players in the market? What is the role of the telecom operator? What about multi-operator coverage?  Who is responsible for the SLAs, and which ones are in force?  These are all questions the building industry is still struggling with.

Wim Boone, Smart Buildings Expert, Ingenium (Dutch)

10:05 Q&A: Your questions, your experience

10:20 Recommendations and perspectives from the installation industry

Guided by a few concrete and real-life cases, we’ll get the installer's view on the challenges and roadblocks to overcome.  Based on an overview and analysis of the requirements, we'll discover key recommendations for the optimisation of MO-DAS.

Bart Bellemans, Telecom Advisor, Techlink (Dutch)

10:50 Q&A: Your questions, your experience

11:05 Short coffee break

11:20 Active DAS for competitive ASTRID coverage solutions in medium to large buildings

Few options exist to fulfil the legal requirements regarding indoor coverage for emergency services. In this presentation, we will discover how active DAS allows for carrier-neutral solutions that integrate multiple operators, and provides a far better total cost of operation (TCO) compared to alternative, dedicated solutions.

Bart Verhaert, Business Line Director Physical Security and Critical Communications, Securitas (English)

11:50 Q&A: Your questions, your experience

12:05 How Dutch companies save money with a standard for indoor coverage

BTG (the Dutch association for business users in ICT and telecommunications) and the Dutch operators have developed a standard with technical requirements for passive indoor cellular systems. This presentation will give us insights into the process to arrive at this standard, and the details about the requirements.

Petra Claessen, Managing Director & New Business, & Gijsbert van der Hel, Project Manager, BTG (English)

12:25 Q&A: Your questions, your experience

12:40 Wrap up & Closing drink
