Virtualised Network Services - Can you master the network complexity? (N-sight)

Date:21/01/2020
Time:13:00
Location:Roularta Conference Center, Zellik

Virtualisation is disrupting networks, with promises including increased flexibility, easier management, greater visibility into the network and more efficiency. So is it time to stop considering network virtualisation as ‘the future’, and bring it into your present?

In this session, let’s put the technology and its features under the microscope and explore the opportunities with insight from the academic, expert and user perspectives. We’ll learn about research into building improved network agility, then talk about different use cases and their specific topologies. Then we’ll hear two cases – from Dell and Agfa – about their real-life experiences.

Agenda

13:00 Welcome coffee

13:30 Introduction

Ann Guinée, Communication Manager, Beltug (English)

13:45 Virtualisation for building future-proof network infrastructures

Managing the average company network infrastructure still involves plenty of manual interventions and custom procedures. This makes it hard to rebuild network services after unexpected failures, while new services are adopted at a slower pace compared to other IT domains. In this presentation, we’ll hear about a future-proof network strategy supported by research that aims at improved network agility, building on the principles of network virtualisation and DevOps.

Wouter Tavernier, Research Lead, Fixed Internet Architectures and Optical Networks research group, IDLAB UGent - imec (English)

14:15 Q&A: Your questions, your experience

14:30 Virtualised Network Services: how to define your use case, and select the right topology

Large companies today face multiple challenges and hurdles with their traditional networks. Let’s find out how Virtualised Network Services (VNS) can play a key role in addressing some of these difficulties, and then compare different network topologies to implement VNS.

Hans Demarneffe, Business Strategy & Portfolio, Telenet (English)

15:00 Q&A: Your questions, your experience

15:15 Coffee break

15:45 Case: Dell IT virtualises its network

What happens when an IT provider implements a virtualised network for itself? We’ll hear the how and why for Dell IT in its own real-life case, and get insight into the maturity, backdrops and advantages of network virtualisation.

Mo Alloul, Network Sales Manager, Dell (English)

16:15 Q&A: Your questions, your experience

16:30 Case: Implementing an SD-WAN-based network at Agfa

In this presentation, we’ll discover Agfa’s journey to transform a traditional self-managed MPLS network into a future-oriented SD-WAN/VNS based network. The first step was the roll-out of the SD-WAN network. Next up (and still in planning) is adding VNS (firewall, WAN optimisation, etc.). Let’s gain insight from Agfa’s experiences and learnings.

Ronny Vaes, Network, Security, Cloud & Datacenter Services, Agfa (Dutch)

17:00 Q&A: Your questions, your experience

17:15 Wrap up & closing drink

18:00 End
