APIs and microservices do they mean more or less complexity? (N-sight)

Location:virtual meeting

IT architectures are made up of various systems, databases, processes and services. In a contemporary architecture strategy, you may choose an API approach in order to get all these elements communicating or synchronising with one another. It seems a perfect solution in multi-cloud or hybrid cloud infrastructures.

But the approach also comes with challenges. For example, how can you avoid increased complexity when using APIs? What should you do about security? What in-house knowledge do you need? And more…

During this session, we'll hear from Proximus and CIB, who will jointly explain how they fit an API approach in an ecosystem with multiple partners. Then we will learn about the Politie Antwerpen’s FOCUS application. Finally, we’ll find out the role of APIs in the digital transformation of Mutualités Libres - Onafhankelijke Ziekenfondsen.

This event will be held as an interactive virtual meeting. The link will be provided in the Confirmation email.

13:30 Welcome and introduction

Ann Guinée, Communication Manager, Beltug (English)

13:40 API ecosystems – all about the right approach

When working with multiple business partners in an ecosystem, and connecting with them through APIs and microservices, a sector- or company-specific approach allows better orchestration of interfaces and the ability to link them all via a service mesh. In this presentation, you’ll discover the benefits of growing out of the generic (often ‘start-up’) approach and closely integrating your API approach with your core business. And you’ll gain insights into how such a transition can support partnerships with other ecosystems, as Proximus and CIB share their own lessons from the world of property management.

Bart Van Vlierberghe, Product manager API solution, Proximus (English); Jonas Zaman, Project leader, CIB (Dutch)

14:10 User story: FOCUS, a modern police application

Get insight into the architecture behind FOCUS: an app for a modern police force, built on a pluggable microservices platform in which small teams can build and release software both independently and in parallel.

Mark Meeus, Software Architect, Politie Antwerpen (Dutch)

14:40 User story: API Management as a foundation for the digital transformation at Mutualités Libres - Onafhankelijke Ziekenfondsen

Mutualités Libres - Onafhankelijke Ziekenfondsen will explain how it has laid the foundations for its digital transformation with Microservices and an API Management Solution. You will also hear where the organisation comes from and what their vision is for the future.
