Low-code/no-code: what is it, and how is it being used by your peers? (N-sight)

Location:virtual meeting

Will low-code and no-code be the tools that enable faster digitisation? Judging by the number of articles in the specialised press, as well as the announcements of large vendors on their low-code/no-code platforms, it seems that it is getting more and more attention.

The promises of low code/no code are indeed tempting: visual programming, a lower threshold for creating applications, faster delivery of software projects and increased digitisation. The large, ‘traditional’ players Mendix and Outsystems have recently been joined by the likes of Salesforce, Microsoft, Google and SeviceNow, while SAP and AWS have announced faster development of their own platforms.

But what is low-code/no-code exactly, and how have Beltug members used it? In this session, Prof. dr. Monique Snoeck will highlight a few interesting points and outline the implications for your software management and IT workforce. Then, Jorgen Colsoul from FPS Mobility and Transport will tell us about their low-code journey, as they sought to replace a few of their Domino-based applications. Finally, Filip Wuyts from Hubo will share his story of digitisation and automation through the use of Microsoft-based tools such as Power Automate and Logic Apps.

Feel free to pass this invite on to your HR and software asset management colleagues, especially for the 1st part of the session!

This event will be held as an interactive virtual meeting. The link will be provided in the Confirmation email.

13:30 Welcome and introduction

Ann Guinée, Communication Manager, Beltug (English)

13:40 Programming made obsolete? Understanding low-code and no-code

Low-code and no-code make it sound as if software can be created without programming. But what's exactly under the hood of this new way of creating software? This presentation takes you on a tour of the fundamental principles, briefly outlines the implications for managing your software base and your IT workforce, and discusses the value-for-money aspects of this new technology.

Prof. dr. Monique Snoeck, Head of the Research Centre for Information Systems Engineering (LIRIS), Faculty of Economics and Business, KU Leuven (English)

14:20 User story: The low-code journey of FPS Mobility and Transport

Find out why FodMOB decided to give low-code a try, and how they implemented their project. Then go into the difficulties – which got quite unpleasant sometimes. Finally, discover the lessons learned and what FodMOB now does in low-code mode.

Jorgen Colsoul, director, ICT, FPS Mobility and Transport (Dutch)

14:50 User story: The magical world of low-code/no-code at Hubo

To understand the use of low-code at Hubo, you will start with some background on digitisation and automation at the company before and after the adoption of low-code/no-code. You will hear some of the concrete realisations of the use of the technology, and its possibilities. Then, discover some attention points, difficulties and possible traps along the low-code/no-code path.

Filip Wuyts, PMO manager, responsible for digital workplace, Hubo (Dutch)

15:20 Q&A: Your questions, your experience

15:30 Wrap up & End

We will keep the session open after the end to enable those who wish to continue the discussions.
