Walloon antenna site tax passed: mobile operators concerned about financial implications

The Walloon Parliament has passed the proposed legislation for a new regional tax on antenna sites. This could result in an additional tax burden of 72 million euro for the mobile telecoms sector, according to the three mobile operators on the Belgian market, in an open letter to the members of the Walloon parliament. The decision was made without consulting the sector, and could have grave consequences not only for the operators, but also for private and business customers, they continue.

BELTUG is disappointed that the government continues to view the telecoms sector as a 'cash cow', instead of recognising on the importance of telecoms, and of a stimulating telecoms environment, to the entire economy.
