5G insights: Beltug paper on what you need to move forward

Following the late finalisation of the 5G auction (finally held in 2022), the measly 4% coverage in Belgium in 2021 rose sharply, to 30% the next year. In 2023, the Belgian government then launched 21 5G pilot projects to showcase 5G usage. Beltug has put together a paper with 5G insights from our event ‘5G in Belgium: what do we need now to move forward?‘, which included four user stories around 5G projects plus a panel discussion with the different players in the Belgian 5G space.

  • Beltug paper: 5G in Belgium - 6 insights to move forward

Beltug pushed strenuously for the auction to go forward and for a new B2B entry into the market. Both have happened. Now, as organisations navigate the complex terrain of connectivity solutions, they need 5G insights into how to move forward: in terms of everything from how to set up 5G networks, to how to roll them out, to how to use 5G itself in real-world applications.

At our event, several different elements were brought up; these are covered in the paper, including:

  1. Off-the-shelf connectivity: how can we ensure 5G deployment becomes as simple and company-friendly as Wi-Fi?
  2. Navigating redundancy and coverage: the focus on redundancy underlines the commitment to ensuring robust and fail-safe connectivity, contributing to the successful integration of 5G technology in diverse operational scenarios
  3. The ‘5G ambassador’: bridging the gap between business and IT
  4. Compliance in the era of 5G and AI: the importance of regulatory harmonisation to contribute to a cost-effective 5G roll out
  5. Dedicated networks versus ‘slices’ of public networks: a full private 5G network offers enhanced control over security, dedicated network capacity, and tailored Quality of Service (QoS).
  6. Technology and device challenges delaying the full potential: corporations engaging with 5G use cases often grapple with addressing issues related to multiple slices and ensuring the inclusion of true 5G features

In 2025 (if not earlier), Beltug will take stock and evaluate how correct our perceptions were.
