Example ‘ICT Code of Conduct’ you can use to clearly define ‘professional’ expectations
One of our members has agreed to share its ‘ICT Code of Conduct’ with its Beltug peers. This member has found that, over the past decade, its operations have become increasingly ICT-intensive. ICT resources and related services improve the quality, transparency and efficiency of day-to-day operations. That means stable, high-performance and secure ICT support is critical, and every employee has a role to play.

At the same time, the divide between private and professional use is becoming increasingly blurred, especially with the increase in home working. The company therefore drafted an ‘ICT Code of Conduct’ for its employees that defines ‘correct behaviour’ in the professional context for the ICT resources and services.
By getting the buy-in of the trade unions, management and board, the document does not need to be signed separately by the employees. It is an integral part of the company’s submitted and approved work regulations.
The overall objectives for the Code of Conduct are to
- increase awareness of the importance of ICT resources and services in the day-to-day operation of the company
- avoid actions that undermine the stability, performance or security of ICT resources
- control ICT costs
- avoid the company’s exposure to violations of laws or other general forms of regulation
Members can use the anonymised ICT Code of Conduct as an example in their organisation (available in Dutch only). It is a basic document that provides the necessary framework for further refinement, awareness-raising, training, and communication.
