Cyber security is everyone’s responsibility, from executives to entry-level staff. As technology and internet reliance grows, proactive employee education and robust security measures are crucial. An informed workforce is the first line of defence against phishing and social engineering, quickly recognising and responding to risks. Yet, human vulnerabilities – such as trust, curiosity and the sense of urgency – remain the toughest challenge. Cyber criminals exploit these weaknesses, but targeted awareness programs can boost key metrics and empower employees to stay cyber safe. Today, businesses must also address the growing role of AI within these programmes, addressing the potential risks alongside the powerful tools.

In this session, we explored practical strategies for engaging the workforce, leverage AI insights, and fortifying the organisation’s defences. First, the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences shared its story of developing a user-focused cyber security awareness programme, and the results they have enjoyed. Then Umicore introduced its innovative ‘I Stay Alert’ programme, including expectations and engaging scenarios.
