As we increasingly use mobile devices to buy, book or pay, and more and more applications are put at our disposal to help us do so, applications programming interfaces (APIs) ensure that the apps work and can be accessed through the open internet. Of course, organisations want to benefit from the new business opportunities and competitive advantages this trend offers. But as the interactions increase, so do the risks of attack. Those creating and managing the APIs thus have an important role to play in securing them, so that the organisations can use the APIs to their advantage, while keeping safe.

Beltug and the API Community Belgium presented this N-sight, offering a deep dive into secure API usage. We first heard from Erwin Geirnaert, Board member of OWASP Belgium and co-founder of Shift Left Security, about API security and best practices. Next, Johan Caluwé, cyber security expert at Cert.be, took on real-world attacks.
