A call for action to reduce unfair practices by large digital suppliers
Sister organisations Beltug, Cigref (France), CIO Platform (Netherlands) and Voice (Germany) are committed to acting as the voice of the user to eliminate unfair practices that can arise due to imbalances in relationships with powerful digital providers. Among the latter are so-called hyperscalers: large companies that pool server resources and then offer this as a service.

The European Digital Markets Act (DMA), a regulation that came into force on 1 November 2022, aims to rebalance in particular triangular relationships: in which a user company depends on a hyperscaler’s platform to access its own end-users.
The regulation defines as ‘Gatekeepers’ companies that can control other organisations’ access to their digital platform services. These Gatekeepers will be required to comply with specific requirements.
But the situation is not yet clear. Furthermore, the success of this initiative will rely on the companies that use platform services providing guidance and input for the Commission’s investigation.
Beltug, Cigref, CIO Platform and Voice have created a 2-page leaflet summarising the DMA and calling on business users to provide feedback on the unfair practices in the market.
